A brilliant marriage of classic soul, R&B, and jazz with modern pop music. Think what you will of Amy Winehouse as a person, but this girl was talented. From Amy's songwriting abilities, Mark Ronson's amazing producing skills, and Amy's distinct contralto vocals, Back to Black was a fantastic album. What a tragedy that Amy Winehouse's demons (seemingly) got the best of her. She was only 27.

It is so upsetting to me that Amy passed away. And you're absolutely right about her being a brilliant marriage of so many genres. There aren't any albums out there like "Back to Black" - it's an album that I've been in love with ever since I first heard it when we were visiting you in Canada. The music world lost a lot of talent.
ReplyDeleteI saw an article that mentioned how a lot of musicians died at age 27: Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix... so sad.
I've heard about the "27 Club" before, but when I heard the news about Winehouse it didn't initially cross my mind that she would now be a "member". So sad.
ReplyDeleteI remember playing that album for you when you guys were visiting. I remember listening to it while waiting at the border crossing, when we were on our way to the Mariner's game. Good times.
